From Old School to New School#

Came across this video somehow and shows how Naughty by Nature (a hip hop group formed in ‘89) uses Windows Mobile to stay connected to their fans and more importantly how they are taking care of business.  The comment I liked … “The Key to Success is Smart Overhead”

Just shows that Windows Mobile is not just used by ‘office workers’ or for ‘line of business apps’ but used by everyday people wanting to get things done efficiently in their personal lives and in their business lives.  With Windows Marketplace for Mobile, who knows, maybe Naughty by Nature could be one of your customers :)

Check out the video.

A New Year a New Beginning#

With a new year come new beginnings in both work and personal life.  Although there are not many significant changes in my personal life there are some new changes in my professional/work life.

After three years I’ve decided to leave OpenNETCF and pursue other opportunities.

Working with Neil, Chris and Alex was one of the best experiences I’ve had in my professional life. Being part of a team to help deliver some great products to the Windows Mobile, Windows Embedded and .NET Compact Framework developer community was fun. In the process becoming friends with three great and brilliant guys was a bonus.

As I leave OpenNETCF, there are some exciting things happening with things like Padarn and the Smart Device Framework so make sure you stay tuned to the OpenNETCF blog.

Here’s continued success to the OpenNETCF team and the products they create for the developer community!

Microsoft's Universal Mobile Platform#

At the CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment 2007 conference, Steve Ballmer talks about building a mobile platform in the same way the desktop platform was built.  Check out the article here and some clips from the keynote.

Some pretty exciting things are happening in the world of mobile.  Facebook is adding it's platform to the Blackberry device and tightly integrate with the hardware, AOL launches a bunch of mobile services, Microsoft launches new services for mobile search

And some stats: US Mobile subscribers have reached 81% of the population (approx 240 million people), people are sending 1billion SMS messages per day in the US and wireless data revenues rose 63% from last year (CTIA Semi-Annual Wireless Industry Survey).  Wish we can get some Canadian stats but I'm sure it doesn't compare to our friends down south!

And I'm sure everyone has heard about the $240million dollar investment from Microsoft on Facebook.  That values Facebook at $15billion!

These are exciting times again!
