This is obviously old news and try not to blog about stuff like this, but Greg Brill of CEO Infusion Development talks about how depressed entrepreneurs are with this YouTube purchase. When I first heard about it, I thought WTF, $1.5billion for posting videos. Got to admit, I was depressed (probably more pissed off) for a few days when I heard that. Here we are building a company things are going great and then you hear that some 20 something (doesn't help that I just turned 30) sold a website for $1.5billion and basically all it let you do was upload videos! Plus to top it all off it never made any money!!!
Read Greg's post (would also recommend his other posts about if you are an entrepreneur) and you'll see I'm not alone. But of course, his wife (as did my wife) and his mother-in-law puts it all in perspective.
Her are a few quotes:
“Money, my dear, is a state, and a temporary one at that…it is not an attribute of a person, as so many people seem to believe.”
"You may never make the paper, and maybe that all seems quite dull to you…but real power is quiet, and real wealth is built over time.”
and my favorite:
"This crazy spending, this excitement of tech and the internet…all this stuff…a hot tech sector is good for our business. We can probably raise our rates."
It's a long read but worth the time.
